ASTRI among the key players in the renewal of the Specola Museum of the University of Bologna
On January 30, 2026, the new exhibition path at the Specola Museum of the University of Bologna was inaugurated, following a complete renovation.
The project is not only a tribute to the Astronomy of the past, but also a bridge toward the Astrophysics of the future. Following the thread of the segmented mirrors conceived by Guido Horn d’Arturo, visitors reach the fifth floor, where they are welcomed by a 1:4 scale model of an ASTRI Mini-Array telescope, precursor of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) Small-Sized Telescopes. On the wall, ASTRI’s modern mirror segments echo the gaze toward the original 1.80-meter mirror, reinstalled in Horn d’Arturo’s original location.
The new exhibition was made possible thanks to the PNRR CTA+ project, funded by the European Union (Next Generation EU, Project IR0000012 CTA+ M4.2-3.1, CUP: C53C22000430006 – WP 1620) and coordinated by the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF). This initiative returns to Bologna an architectural jewel, now accessible to students, enthusiasts, and visitors, offering a unique window into how Italian science contributes to large-scale projects in very-high-energy Astrophysics.
