Giada Peron’s contribution to international research

A study on cosmic rays escaping from the stellar cluster Westerlund 1 was published on 9 December in Nature Communications. The research was carried out by an international team of scientists that includes Giada Peron, a young researcher involved in the ASTRI project. The results were also presented in a news article on Media INAF, entitled “Cosmic Rays Escaping from Westerlund 1”, featuring a short interview with Giada Peron.

Giada Peron is also the recipient of the Giovanni Bignami Prize, established by the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIt) and the Italian Physical Society (SIF) to honour the memory of astrophysicist Giovanni Bignami, former president of ASI and INAF. The award was granted for her research on extremely young star-forming regions, studied as sources of very-high-energy gamma rays and cosmic-ray acceleration. The prize celebrates excellence and innovation in physics and astronomy research, highlighting the work of young scientists.
