Outreach

INDACO , an acronym for INaf for the Dissemination of Astri and CtaO, is responsible, on behalf of INAF, for education and outreach activities related to very high-energy (TeV) Astrophysics for the ASTRI and CTAO projects.

Our goal is to bring very high-energy Astrophysics to the public by telling the story of the scientific and technological challenges being tackled through the use of Cherenkov telescopes—challenges that will lead to significant advancements in this field in the near future.

ASTRI Mini-Array is a project led by INAF and involves the installation of 9 dual-mirror, 4-meter Cherenkov telescopes on Mount Teide in Tenerife, Spain. The ASTRI Mini-Array will observe the sky in the energy range of about 1–300 TeV. The first telescope has already been installed and the array is expected to be completed within a few months. It can be considered a precursor to the larger CTAO, as observations (at least with a 3-telescope configuration) are expected to begin in a couple of years.

CTAO is an international project that will deploy two arrays of Cherenkov telescopes, one in the Southern Hemisphere (Chile) and one in the Northern Hemisphere (Canary Islands, Spain). It will include three classes of telescopes (small, medium, and large) to cover an unprecedented energy range: from 20 GeV to 300 TeV.
