Come sentiamo dalle parole del Direttore dell\u2019IAC, Rafael Rebolo, la situazione non \u00e8 tragica come avrebbe potuto essere senza le misure poste in atto e l\u2019intervento dei soccorsi, ma non \u00e8 ancora del tutto sotto controllo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Dear CCI members and User Institutions<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>We have managed to prevent damage to the OT facilities by the Tenerife<\/em>\u00a0<em>fire. Yesterday, Sunday, August 20, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the fire<\/em>\u00a0<em>that is devastating Tenerife entered the Teide Observatory through the<\/em>\u00a0<em>area that separates us from the Meteorological Observatory.\u00a0<\/em><em>The fire<\/em>\u00a0<em>checkpoints that had been deployed in the OT in anticipation of what<\/em>\u00a0<em>could happen reacted immediately and although the fire progressed<\/em>\u00a0<em>rapidly towards Themis and Stella, between them and the intervention of<\/em>\u00a0<em>helicopters it was possible to avoid damage to these research\u00a0<\/em><em>facilities. Then the fire surrounded the observatory on the east and<\/em>\u00a0<em>south front, crossing the road that connects us with the meteorological<\/em>\u00a0<em>station and moving towards our main entrance around 9:00 p.m. The action<\/em>\u00a0<em>throughout the night of the fire services, firefighters and brigades<\/em>\u00a0<em>that were reinforced by the Military Emergency Unit and other resources<\/em>\u00a0<em>has managed to prevent the fire from damaging our telescopes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>I want to thank all the personnel of the firefighting services for their<\/em>\u00a0<em>total dedication, generosity and extreme professionalism that has<\/em>\u00a0<em>managed to save our facilities from the fire and, of course, the<\/em>\u00a0<em>authorities for their commitment to protect our Observatory, which are a<\/em>\u00a0<em>Canarian, national and international research facility.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>The fire in Tenerife is not yet under control so we cannot fully exclude<\/em>\u00a0<em>any further problems. I will keep you informed on progress with the<\/em>\u00a0<em>extinction activities.
